Best maps for Expedition farming
How to pick Dam, Stella Montis, Buried City, Blue Gate, and Spaceport rotations for expedition checklist work - honest scope: routes and risk, not datamined spawn rates.
This page is a rotation primer, not a spawn encyclopedia. Checklist quantities and vendor values on this site come from tracked data files and current community research. We do not host verified per-tile loot tables or ARC spawn timers.
What we can do responsibly is match the job to the right map personality. Expedition farming is usually less about one magical route and more about picking the map that best fits your current stage: safe passive basics, high-risk rare components, or value-heavy Load Stage runs. This is a fan-made planning page, so verify in-game if a patch changes POIs, event conditions, or drop behavior.
Why these maps keep showing up
Expedition-facing guides on this site repeatedly reference Dam Battlegrounds, Stella Montis, Blue Gate, Buried City, and Spaceport because they solve different problems well. That is a map-choice pattern, not a claim that every checklist item drops equally on every map.
Early-stage basics like Metal Parts, Plastic Parts, ARC Alloy, and Wires can be farmed passively almost anywhere. The map choice gets much more important once you are chasing rare ARC drops, dense industrial lockers, or the giant sell-value totals needed for Load Stage and final stash planning.
Map personalities by Expedition stage
Stage 1 and Stage 2 are the least picky. Metal and plastic parts, utility junk, and generic electronics show up across the whole game. ARC Alloy also comes from ARC enemies on every map, so you do not need to hard-commit to one zone just to get the basics moving.
Stage 3 is where map choice starts paying off. Historically, Stella Montis has been the dominant map for rare components like Shredder Gyros and Exodus Modules, especially around Assembly Workshop, Medical Research, and rocket-adjacent interiors. Secondary options exist - Spaceport Rocket Assembly, Buried City Space Travel, and Dam Control Tower - but Stella is still the map most veterans describe as "brutal but god-given" for Stage 3 progress.
Stage 4 is where things usually turn ugly. Older cycles pushed players toward Stella medical corridors, Blue Gate trap routes, and Dam stair loops for items like Frequency Mod Boxes, Ion Sputters, and Leaper Pulse Units. Even when the exact item list changes, Outfitting still favors maps with dense elite ARC pressure and better locked-room upside.
Stage 5 changes the question completely. At that point, Buried City usually becomes the best all-around value map because residential and commercial zones let you chain trinkets, provisions, and general sell-value items quickly. Community reports around Flashpoint-era Buried City runs regularly mention 50K to 100K value clears when routes stay clean.
How to use the pattern
- Match the job to the item - read the item guide first instead of assuming any industrial map works the same way.
- Learn one map deeply per week - audio, third-party lanes, and extract habits matter more than constantly swapping maps.
- Track PvP tempo - if lobbies are brutal, shorter raids with safer extracts often beat greedy full clears.
- Buried City - safest and most consistent for stash value, provisions, and quick solo extracts.
- Stella Montis - highest rare-component upside, highest ARC and PvP pressure.
- Blue Gate - strong for safe underground routes and Leaper-style trap farms.
- Spaceport - fast ARC component loops, especially Rocket Assembly and breach-heavy interiors.
- Dam Battlegrounds - beginner-friendly repeatable loops for passive farming and industrial clears.
Key POIs worth knowing
If you want a short list to memorize, start here: Grandioso Apartments, the Hospital lockers above the subway, the Library backside lockers, and Santa Maria Houses in Buried City; Assembly Workshop and Medical Research in Stella Montis; Ancient Fort in Blue Gate; Rocket Assembly and the Departure Building in Spaceport; and the Hydroponic Dome, Control Tower, and Admin loop in Dam.
Solo players usually get the most value from Buried City, Blue Gate, and Dam because those maps support quick extracts and lower-risk free-loadout loops. Squads get more out of Stella Montis because elite kills and contested medical or assembly areas are easier to stabilize with crossfire and shared loot.
Post-Flashpoint changes to watch
Flashpoint-era conditions changed the board in important ways. Close Scrutiny now runs on exterior maps only - Blue Gate, Buried City, Spaceport, and Dam, but not Stella Montis. That event brings ARC Assessors with breachable containers, a new Vaporizer threat, and stronger locked-room value on maps that used to feel secondary.
Shredders can now appear on all maps during the right conditions, so Stella is no longer the only place to think about Gyro-style farming. Locked rooms were buffed too, with loot scaling by key rarity, which means key management matters more than it did earlier in the cycle.
